Frankie Navin ’28 turned in a career day to lift Masters' varsity girls lacrosse team to a hard-fought 8-6 win over visiting Sacred Heart (NYC) at Greene Family Field on April 8.
Navin totaled an eye-popping seven goals, ensuring the Panthers (1-2) recorded their first victory of the season.
"Frankie stepped up big time yesterday and wasn’t leaving that field without a win," head coach Alexis Di Domenico said.
Navin totaled four first-half goals, and Flynn Dixon ’29 added another as Masters jumped out to an early 5-2 lead at the break.
"We started out the game strong and then fatigue inevitably took over, as it does," Di Domenico said. "The coaches stressed playing through it and adapting our game to compensate for that fatigue. The players responded well and altered their style of play as we neared the fourth quarter. They stayed composed when we needed to, and that’s what got us that win in the end."
Superstar goalie Bea Hopper (11 saves) anchored a strong defensive effort alongside Clio Foley ’26 and Ella Black ’25.
"Bea is a huge part of our success," Di Domenico said. "She is a fantastic goalie and plays under quite a bit of pressure given the nature of her position. She consistently rises to the occasion as she did yesterday. We’re very lucky to have her back there for us."
Midfielders Maya Yoon ’26 and Dixon showcased their two-way abilities, making an impact on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field. Genesis Cruz ’27 was another key player on offense, aiding the transition game while helping the Panthers retain possession.
Masters will aim to build on the victory as it travels to face Sacred Heart (Greenwich) in its next game on Wednesday, April 16, at 4:45 p.m.
"We really try to take things one day at a time and set small goals for ourselves," Di Domenico said. "Our daily goal is to leave a practice or a game knowing more than we did when we got there. Not only does this include learning more about our individual performance, but also knowing more about how our teammates work, or just learning more about the game in general."
