The Masters School athletics program celebrates the personal growth of our student athletes by fostering teamwork, emphasizing sportsmanship, and developing both physical and mental confidence. We challenge our students to push themselves both on and off the field to be the best athletes they can while daring them to become strong leaders and promoting the highest moral standards.

Athletics at Masters

Student-athletes at Masters are at the top of their game. Our talented, dedicated coaches lead our athletes — many of whom have been honing their athleticism from an early age — with instruction that cultivates not only skill, but also good sportsmanship. Our students take athletics seriously while enthusiastically supporting one another — on the tennis court, on the lacrosse field, on the fencing strips and everywhere they compete.

Whether you are a serious athlete or just trying a sport for fun, there are plenty of options. Just as you’ll hone your strategic thinking skills around the Harkness table, sports will provide you with another collaborative learning opportunity that fosters confidence and independence to help you emerge as a front runner in every field in life.

Yes, students in both the Middle School and Upper School are required to participate in athletics.

Athletic Requirements

Students in both the Middle School and Upper School are required to participate in athletics.

Physical education class is required for all fifth and sixth grade students and is included during the school day. Students participate in a variety of games and physical activities to develop basic athletic skills and to experience the joy of playing. Interscholastic team sports begin in seventh grade. Practices are held during the school day and games are played after school. Students may take dance to satisfy the athletic requirement.

Students who enter the Upper School in ninth grade are required to complete three seasons of interscholastic sports by the end of their tenth grade year (three out of a possible six seasons). Incoming tenth graders are required to participate in one season of interscholastic sports during their sophomore year. Dance Tech III and the Winter Musical also satisfy the athletic requirement.
