Students Display Flags of Homelands

During a Flag Ceremony on Monday, September 17, new students from various cultural backgrounds displayed their nation’s flag and introduced themselves in their native language.

The annual event is a tradition sponsored by the International Club. Thirty-two new Upper School students, who hail from 15 nations, participated. As each student took the stage in the Claudia Boettcher Theatre, a large map of their homeland was projected on a screen behind them.

“The mission of the International Club is to celebrate cultural diversity and ensure the new students from diverse cultures find a place and a voice on the Masters campus,” says senior Hanlin (Sam) Liu, club co-president. The purpose of the Flag Ceremony is to help introduce new students to the Masters community, he adds.
