Varsity Girls Tennis Squad on a Roll
The varsity girls tennis squad has compiled a 2-1 record over its last three matches, showcasing its depth and talent in the process.
"The depth on the team this year has raised our level of competition in practice," coach Greg Lesser said. "So, when we go into a match, we are feeling more confident and comfortable playing other teams. We have a solid mix of experienced seniors and up-and-coming players."
Masters started the hot stretch with a 3-2 win over visiting Léman Manhattan on Friday, September 13. The first doubles team of Clara Chu ’27 and Sydney Starkey ’24 led the way with a decisive 8-0 victory in their match.
The Panthers kept it rolling against Friends Seminary on Wednesday, September 18, notching a 3-2 win at the famed USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Chu and Starkey once again impressed with a victory at first doubles.
Masters returned home to cap off the three-game run with a narrow 4-3 loss against Brearley on Tuesday, September 24. Nathalie Jansky ’26 stood out with an 8-6 comeback win at second singles.
"Even though we didn't win against Brearley, it was a really close match (3-4) compared to last year's result against them, when we didn't win any matches," Lesser said.
The team's strong play this season can be attributed to Lesser, who has steadily guided the program over the years. Lesser was recently featured in a "Mic'd Up" episode on the School's social media accounts. It was filmed during a practice earlier this week.
